Another great tournament hosted by Scott Hoenig and Phillips Academy, Andover. Congratulations to repeat champions NMH (right), who were one of 16 schools represented this year!
What follows is taken from Scott's summary e-mail:
Congratulations to NMH and Milton for their first and second place finishes! Both teams played very well throughout the day and provided the fans with an exciting final game. The consolation game between Andover A and Hotchkiss was replaced by a 13-player Ro-Sham-Bo line. Andover narrowly defeated Hotchkiss in an entertaining display. Nothing beats Rock! St. Margaret's-McTernan defeated Concord Academy in the 5th/6th crossover game. BU Academy and St. Johnsbury held onto the 7th/8th place spots by winning play-up games against Chapel Hill - Chauncy Hall and Marianapolis, respectively. Beaver Country Day School and St. John¹s Prep held onto their spots as well, beating Corwin-Russell and Andover B in the last round of play. Darrow, who went 0-3 during pool play, pulled an upset in the final round, defeating Cambridge School of Weston. Thanks to all teams for taking the time to evaluate the level of spirit of each opponent. Each team had four or five spirit scores that were averaged to determine their overall spirit ranking. The range of scores was [5.75,9.75] with a mean of 7.8. The highest spirit score was earned by Hotchkiss and Marianapolis! Both teams received scores of 9.75 (earning three 10¹s and one 9). Andover B came in third with a score of 9.5. Congratulations! This year we asked for teams to nominate individual players for Spirit prizes as well. Great job to all of those players who appear on this list. In particular, I would like to recognize the fact that Chris “Captain Planet” from St. John’s Prep and Sean from St. Johnsbury each received three nominations! Pending the approval of our GAIA sponsorship, I hope to reward these players with GAIA gift certificates. Thank you to all of you for making this tournament a success! I enjoyed having a chance to see/meet you all and to watch your teams play. Good luck with the rest of your season!
