Congrats to Spirit of the Game winners Miss Porter's and to Phillips Andover, the 2006 Champions! Photos are now available in the NEPSUL gallery...
What follows is the summary e-mail from tournament director and PA coach, Scott Hoenig:
"Congratulations to Phillips Academy and NMH for their first and second place finishes! Both teams played very well throughout the day and provided the fans with an exciting final game.
Thanks to all teams for taking the time to evaluate the level of spirit of each opponent. Each team had 3-5 spirit scores that were averaged to determine their overall spirit ranking. The range of scores was [6.25, 9.5] with a mean of 8.1 (0.3 higher than last year!).
The highest spirit score was earned by... Miss Porter's School!! Miss Porter's received scores of 9, 9.5 and 10 clearly a spirited squad! Hotchkiss earned the second highest spirit score (9.25) and Phillips Academy's A team got the third highest (8.375)."
After torrential rains left the PA fields under water, the tournament was rescheduled for Sunday, May 21, meaning that not all teams could attend, and the girls division had to be cancelled. Consequently, Miss Porters went it alone against the open teams. The Daisies faced many tough opponents in their first season, and embody the Spirit of the Game in that they continued to play for the joy of the sport despite such strong odds.
This was the first year that the tournament was UPA sanctioned, allowing NEPSUL teams to put in bids for the 2007 UPA Eastern championships.
Please note that all teams that were originally scheduled to come to the tournament (and who submitted complete rosters to the UPA) will be eligible to submit bids to the 2007 Easterns.
